Exotic Hardwoods such as IPE(pronounced epay) Mahogany, Brazilian Redwood, Massaranduba, Meranti, Pau Lupe, and Teak, Cumaru, and Red Tauari are mainly imported from South America. During the past decade these exotic woods have become increasingly popular due to their beauty and natural resistant to the elements. They are extremely dense and do not require toxic chemicals to prevent rot and decay. Periodic cleaning will be needed to clean the dirt and remove the gray oxidation from the Ultra-Violet rays. If you to want retain and enhance the natural color tones of these Exotic Hardwoods, then you should apply a transparent but tinted Exotic Deck Stain.

Hardwood Deck Stains offer protection and beautifies exterior wood decks and other wood projects. For dense exotic hardwoods like Ipe, Mahogany, Brazilian Redwood, Massaranduba, Meranti, Pau Lupe, and Teak, Exotic Hardwood Deck Stains allow you to protect and beautify your exotic wood while maintaining a natural appearance. These Exotic Wood Stains will enhance the natural color-tones of the wood but not the texture, and will not obscure the natural wood grain. The UV Absorbers prolong the wood from turning gray. Typically a high quality Hardwood Stain will last about 9-18 months on your vertical wood and slightly less on your horizontal wood.

When applying a Hardwood Stain, it is recommended to use a method called "wiping". Apply the stain using a brush, stain pad, rag, or roller then after a short period of time (usually 10-20 minutes) you would need to "wipe" off the excess. Since exotic woods are extremely dense, this process will make sure that you are removing the excess stain that cannot soak into the wood. This will help with premature stain failure, providing the longest possible life!

Preparation of you Exotic Hardwood is also very important. If needed remove your previous coating with a Deck Stripper or if you are applying a maintenance coat, you can use a Deck Cleaner. By properly prepping and staining your Exotic Hardwood you will achieve maximum results while restoring the natural beauty!

I absolutely love my IPE deck. When I stain the deck with the Messmers it looks
beautiful! It is failry easy to maintain, just a light cleaning and an annual
coat.

Make sure to use the Messmers Hardwood stain version! Being an oil base it
applies very easy.

The Defy Stain for Hardwoodwill also work very well and it is a water based stain. It works very well with
the uv rays. B)

I used the Penofin and I really liked the final color. I have to apply it on an
annual basis though but that is normal with an IPE deck. To prep I just use a
commercial deck cleaner then apply 1 coat of the Penofin exotci wood finish
