How to Remove a Failed Deck Stain

Exterior Deck Strippers are biodegradable, easy to use deck stain removers that will quickly remove stain wood finishes to restore the natural beauty of wood surfaces. These deck strippers are powerful enough to remove clear and tinted transparent sealers, film forming clear coatings, and water sealers along with collected dirt, mold, mildew and mill glaze.
To achieve maximum performance out of your deck stain, it is recommended to remove all previous stains with a Deck Stripper. This will allow maximum penetration and uniformity when your project is completed.

Wood and Deck Stain Strippers will remove weathered semi-transparent color stains and transparent stains that cannot be removed by using a deck cleaner. If unsure whether the wood needs to be stripped or just cleaned, test a small, inconspicuous area to determine which method will provide the best results before proceeding. Apply a generous amount of a deck stain stripper with a scrub brush, roller or pump-up hand sprayer allowing it to sit for 15 minutes. This will soften the coating, lifting the old stain from the wood’s surface. After the stain begins to loosen, scrub with a stiff brush or powerwash gently. Take care with a power washer to avoid damaging the wood, using the washer as a rinsing tool only. It is important to always go in the direction of the wood grain. Upon removal, rinse with water. After rinsing, you must neutralize and brighten the wood immediately. Brightening the wood will change the pH balance back to the wood's natural state.

Proper preparation is the single most important step to maximizing your deck stains performance!

Will deck strippers remove Behr stain from Home Depot :?:
DeckRestAdmin |Y-m-d H:i:s

It's look like as easy to do with the Deck Stain Strippers and I am yet to give
it a try for my cedar deck.

Do these deck strippers face up to the climatic changes too? Should the process
be repeated once in three or four years?
DeckRestAdmin |Y-m-d H:i:s
Stripping the deck should be done every once in awhile. Eventually the wood
stain may become too thick, resulting in the inability for a new coating to
penetrate properly. Maybe every 2nd or 3rd time you redo your deck.

One wonder the process of the removal of a failed deck stain is time consuming.
Does it take more than 2 weeks for the entire process to be complete?

Is removal of a failed deck stain time consuming? How long for the entire
process to be complete?

Depends on the previous stain and the amount of coatings being removed.
Typically an average deck (500 sq. feet) would take less then a day.

From the article I learn that brightening of the exterior is extremely important
for the wood to look good. Of course the pH balance is reverted back to the
normal.

You have mentioned about proper preparation for the maximization of the deck
stains performance. What ensures proper preparation?

Prepping properly by cleaning and/or stripping the wood of old coatings, dirt,
grime, etc followed by a wood brightener.

As Spring approaches this article is very timely, I needed something that I
could use to clear my porch deck before I decided to paint or stain. I prefer
stain but there appars to be some residual paint from some time ago. This may be
the product I need Thanks so much!
