To achieve maximum performance out of your deck stain, it is recommended to remove all previous stains with a Deck Stripper. This will allow maximum penetration and uniformity when your project is completed.

Wood and Deck Stain Strippers will remove weathered semi-transparent color stains and transparent stains that cannot be removed by using a deck cleaner. If unsure whether the wood needs to be stripped or just cleaned, test a small, inconspicuous area to determine which method will provide the best results before proceeding. Apply a generous amount of a deck stain stripper with a scrub brush, roller or pump-up hand sprayer allowing it to sit for 15 minutes. This will soften the coating, lifting the old stain from the wood’s surface. After the stain begins to loosen, scrub with a stiff brush or powerwash gently. Take car with a power washer to avoid damaging the wood, using the washer as a rinsing tool only. It is important to always go in the direction of the wood grain. Upon removal, rinse with water. After rinsing, you must neutralize and brighten the wood immediately. Brightening the wood will change the pH balance back to the wood's natural state.
