Suggestion for staining railing w/ metal balusters 2 Years, 11 Months ago Karma: 0
Hello,
I read your article on staining a deck. Great article by the way! I have seen many suggestions for staining, but not one on staining a rail that has metal balusters instead of wooden spindles. The tarp method would allow stain to get on the metal and possibly dry, which may not be that big of a deal, I would just have to clean it.

Do you have any suggestions that will make it quicker to stain this kind of rail?

Also, what would you recommend using to apply the stain to a rail with metal balusters?

Thanks,
atticus

For metal spindles we typically have a bunch of rags to wipe them down as soon as we are done with a section of rails. This works well if the metal spindles have a shiny smooth finish not so much if they are dull and porous.
