Restore Brick and Pavers 2 Years, 10 Months ago Karma: 0
I have two areas I would like to improve:

1. The first area is the walkway in front of our house. It is a red brick walkway and it is about 10 years old. I tried to put some sealer on it but it really didn’t take too well and there is now some effervescence and whitening now. How should I remove it and clean it? Also, is there a way to recolor the bricks or should I just powerwash it?

2. The second area is some concrete pavers in the back of the house. They are also about 10 years old. They were originally red but have faded considerably over the years. I sealed these pavers and they now have the wet look, but now I would like to try to restore the color of the pavers to the original red and then reseal them. How should I remove the existing sealer and what do you recommend to recolor the pavers?

I live in California and would to use the most eco friendly products you have. Any runoff goes to the ocean.

Thanks.

1. Efflorescence can be removed with the Effortless product we carry. If there is a sealer on top of the Efflorescence then you will need to remove it first:

Resealing the bricks will enhance the colors similar to a wet look. This should help revive your old bricks

2. Stripping pavers is not easy. You will need a heavy duty paint stripper that contains "methylene chloride" as the active ingredient. You could apply a concrete stain after it is stripped. It should add some needed color. It will need to resealed after.

Thanks. I’d like to order some products but I’m still a bit unclear as to what I need to do.

1. Do you sell a product to take the sealer off the bricks?

2. Do you recolor the bricks or just seal them? Which sealer would you use for the bricks?

3. Do you sell a product to take the sealer off the pavers?

1. No we do not. We cannot ship the stripper due to HazMat Regulations.

2. Our wet look sealers will enhance the bricks like they are wet with water. No need to stain them unless you are trying to add additional color.

Paver Sealer California

3. Same as the first answer.
