TOPIC: Dock Stain difference

Dock Stain difference 1 Year, 4 Months ago Karma: 0
Please respond to my question regarding the different types of Cabot deck stain. I have used Cabots deck stain(oil?) to paint my dock on a lake. Year after year, Ipainted it and the mixture looked kind of watery and did cover the old worn out docks. However, this year I tried Cabot deck stain- acrylic mixture and was surprised that the texture was like sour cream and that it did a fantastic job of covering the worn out deck planks. I now have to purchase more of the acrylic mixture but before I do Iwould like to know what the difference ( IN CHEMICAL MAKE-UP AND INTENDED USE ) AND THE longivity and waterproofing between the thinner mixture and the thicker mixture.I dOn"t know where to purchase the acrylic cabot deck stain. perhaps you can help with these inquiries.

The water based acrylic is a film-forming stain that will lie on top of the wood. The oil based version will penetrate better into the wood. The better it penetrates the less chance of peeling and wearing. We prefer the oil based since they make the wood look more natural and do not mask the wood. In your case you prefer the water since it does seem to mask your wood.
