Cedar Log Home turned black 2 Years, 5 Months ago Karma: 0
WE have a Cedar Log Home here in Missouri. 3 years ago we had a man come and treat the house. WE don't know what kind of product he used, because we were unable to contact him. Anyway, the house turned black and we have powered washed the whole house and cannot remove some of the black that is in the logs. Will any of your products help us in removing the black stain and return the logs back to the red cedar color?

Certain stains will darken in color from the sun even turning black. Good thing is that they are removable with a wood stripper. All the wood strippers we sell will work. It would be best to choose the most cost effective. HD80 or Powersolve. Make sure that you use a wood brightener to neutralize the wood stripper. It is very important.

Before I purchase, I have a few qustions. How do you apply the spripper and what do you do after you apply it, do you powerwash it off? And do you sell the wood brightener to neutralize the wood spripper?

Please reply and all information is greatfully appreciated.

Hello,
I have just bought some cedar shingle cleaner and brightener and am looking forward to using it. My dilemma is this though. I have recently purchased the house from relatives and know that the ceder shingles have NOT been cleaned in over 40 years!! I grew up in the house so I know for sure.
I'm hoping that this cleaner will breath a little new live into them.
My question is, i have 40 years worth of grime on them. Its gone form that lovely ceder color to BLACK in a lot of spots. I know that its all grime and not mold.
Should I power wash the shingles on a low setting BEFORE using the cleaner? I can only imagine this helping the cleaner do its work. Also, how long should I wait before applying the cleaner after I have washed them? Will the cleaner absorb into the shingles if they are already wet?
I think you get my point.

You do not need to pressure wash first. Just apply the wood cleaner then lightly pressure wash off all of the dirt, grime, black, etc.

Thanks
