Would you treat cedar inside differently from out door cedar when it comes to stripping and finishing, I have a cedar wood fron door and it obviously has an internal and external surfaces?

Typically inside finishes have a slight gloss to them. Exterior wood finishes are penetrating and will perform better if they do not have any shine or gloss. My advice would be to use a clear interior wood finish such as the Defy Interior Stain on the inside. This will protect from grime and dirt. On the outside you need a tinted wood finish. This will protect from water and UV rays. If it is not tinted then it will turn gray very quickly. The tint acts as a UV absorber prolonging the disloration. This is not important for inside wood as the sun rays are not nearly as damaging.

Excllent, thats a really comprehensive answer and something I can move forward with. The exterior was greying so I guess it must have been an older on UV protected product.
