A new wood deck 2 Years ago Karma: 0
A new wood deck with attractive outdoors adds to a home's beauty. But decks are affected both due to the weather and due to wrong use. The problems which the deck faces are normally cosmetic and not structural. It is because of the fact that decking is done with the aid of durable woods.

That is correct. Decking materials used generally use resist rot and decay. You will still need to apply a deck stain sealer so it will extend the overall life of the wood.

My question is how do you know which wood deck type is right for your area? I would hate to finally build a deck and then realize it's not sufficient for our environment.

In general all decking materials will work for you area. When you go to your local lumber yard you will see different options available. The most popular are:

Pressure Treated Pine
Western Red Cedar
Redwood
Exotic Hardwoods such as IPE and Mahogany

Never choose untreated pine as it will rot and decay rather fast. Applying a wood deck sealer will help prolong the decking wood's life as well.

Pricing is probably the biggest factor as they costs are much different for certain areas. Example: Redwood is substantially less expensive on the west coast compared to the east coast.

Should cedar siding be cleaned during winter? What if the log home begin to look older and the cleaning process avoided during winter?
