What sealer to apply over a Water Based Paver Seal 2 Years, 1 Month ago Karma: 11
Hello, How may I help you?

Customer (13:58:10): When I first had my pavers installed I applied a Xylene based sealer. Some areas were evidently still moist and those areas turned milky white in color. I contacted a restorer service and he applied a water based product that seemed to improve the appearance, however, over time the worn milky white appearance comes back over time at a lesser degree. What product do you recommend for the future that can be used over a Xylene based and a water based sealer. I would like a matte or semi gloss appearance. Frank
The Sealer Store (13:59:25): There could be issues with adhesion.
The Sealer Store (13:59:46): Doesn't matter what the brand is
The Sealer Store (14:00:45): The problem is the first coat. Solvent based sealers will adhere to themselves but putting a water based on was a bad idea
The Sealer Store (14:01:41): Putting another coat on also will not fix the "white" haze issues.
Customer (14:02:18): How about time and wear as when it may be best to reseal
The Sealer Store (14:03:41): The old sealer(s) are still there and will not go away completely. If you do not want to strip then you will just run the risk of the new sealer failing. Not a guarantee but a possibility.
The Sealer Store (14:04:38): Without knowing the exact chemical make up of the two previous coatings it is hard to say if a new coating will adhere or not.
Customer (14:05:35): The water based sealer seemed to improve condition by 90% but it does not seal surface as good as xylene. Is it best to continue to use water base verse chemical?
The Sealer Store (14:06:43): Hard to say. IMO I would test a solvent and a water based sealer. See if they adhere or not prior to application
Customer (14:07:03): What product do you have most success with??
The Sealer Store (14:07:36): SuperSeal30 for a solvent based. Similar to Xylene but a different solvent
The Sealer Store (14:08:41): Defy Paver Sealer
Customer (14:08:49): If it does not penetrate is that where the problem lies??
The Sealer Store (14:09:34): No. It needs to bond to the old sealer. That is the problem. Hard to say for sure.
Customer (14:09:56): Many thanks for your help.
The Sealer Store (14:10:10): Not a problem. Good luck!
The Sealer Store (14:10:34):
