We all know that concrete is durable. But yet it is porous. The new concrete also would be subject to damage. But they can be protected from stains, oil and salt of course.

Applying a concrete water repellent will help substantially with the porosity issue.

A modification of the total porosity and pore size distribution was observed recently and it indicated that the porosity was low at the interfacial zone. This porosimetry was performed on hardened cement paste.

On what should engineers rely for evaluating the durability of concrete? Compressive strength is the most common test conducted for checking the durability of concrete. Apart from this is there any other yardstick to measure the durability of concrete.?

What are test cylinders? Or in other words what is the purpose of test cylinders? If the test cylinders are used to check the durability of concrete what else should be used to check the compressive strength of concrete?

Cleaning and Sealing. Not so much with the construction side.

Perhaps the most important traits of a concrete durability, which could stand even those ultraviolet rays that, could do some heavy damage to our skin. It helps protect our skin from having those cancers that is the result of long exposure to the sun.

I had my concrete driveway done in 2004, it was a mix of concrete and acrylic because I am in a northern climate. I have notice cracks that have come from the shifting of the grounds is there a way that I can reseal these cracks that will not look unsightly? I am afraid as water runs in and freezes the cracks will deepen and expand causing a faster decline of the drive pad. Any advice?
