Remove Olympic Stain 2 Years, 6 Months ago Karma: 0
I just recently stained my deck using Olympic Brand waterproofing sealant-penetrating oil formula in the color called "Canyon Brown." Unfortunately, I am not as pleased with the dark color as I had thought I would be. The deck previously was a yukky gray and I wanted to make it nicer. Can your "Defy Exterior Wood Stripper" take this color off so that I can re-stain it using a lighter color? Thank you in advance for any help you can give me.

The Defy Stain Stripper does remove oil based transparent or semi-transparent wood stains. The problem is that it is difficult to remove a newly stained finish. It will come off but you may need to strip more then just one time. It is very important to use the Defy Wood Brightener when done as this will neutralize the Defy Stain Stripper.

I think part of the problem was that i did not clean the wood properly before applying the Cabot. If I use the Defy product to strip the deck, will it remove the old gray as well?

Depends on what the old "gray" was. If it was a solid stain then probably not. If the sun oxidized the wood cells and turned it gray, then yes the Defy Wood Stripper should remove that as well.

Olympic stain is supposed to be an excellent variety that resists mildew, fading and cracking as well. May be black hue is not to your liking.
