If there is still residue of the old sealer then the Defy will not adhere. Best way to determine is to sprinkle some water on the wood. If it absorbs immediately then it may be okay. If it beads, then it will not penetrate.

Does Defy Extreme come in redwood color and in 5-gallon sizes. Does Defy Extreme require stripping every few years before reapplication of new coats.

No it does not come in Redwood color until this coming spring. It can be cleaned and recoated every couple of years. It does not need to be stripped unless you want to change color or if the stain was over applied.

No that would be a bad idea! The Defy Stain will penetrate properly causing failure.

Dear Sirs,

I have been a customer of yours for the last 4 years and have been using Defy Wood Stain and Sealer for my deck which is made from rough-saw Hemlock. Your Defy product has been OK but the deck needs an application every 2 years. My question is if the Extreme product is that much better (and will allow me more time before I have to restain/protect the deck again). Also, if I do purchase the Extreme product, can that go right over the other Defy product I have been using? Thanks for your attention to this.

Robert, staining a deck over two years is normal for a horizontal surface. The Extreme will hold color longer by resisting the UV fading better but it will not make a difference when it comes to normal wear and tear or general dirt/grime.

It can be applied over the other Defy Stains.

Thanks

Hello. I just had a new deck built in Austin, TX with treated southern yellow pine. It gets full sun in the afternoon. Wanted to know how long I should wait before applying your stain after the deck is built (the wood is still pretty wet from the pressure treatment). I would also like to know what product you recommend for my area/wood used and if the cedar finish stain/sealer would be a good choice for this type of wood.
