I have a redwood deck that I want to stain and seal. Will your epoxy stain work on this type of wood or do you recommend your Defy Hardwood Stain. What is the composition of the Hardwood stain. Is it an acrylic stain?

The Defy Hardwood Stain is suggested for Redwood. It will penetrate better and perform better.

The Defy Hardwood stain is a penetrating synthetic resin stain.

Hi,

We're considering whether to not to use Defy on our 10 year old redwood deck. In the past we've used Biowash Natural Deck Oil and TimberPro. Can you send us some information on the chemical content, VOC, etc? Also, do we need to use any sort of stripper beforehand to get old stain off, or to prep the wood?

thanks,

p.s. great site for learning about deck stain!

You will need to use a wood stripper to remove the Biowash NDO before applying the Defy Stain. Defy is 250 VOC compliant and is registered as a green product with the MPI. Here is some additional links:

Two questions : I want to maintain the natural reddish color of cedar. What is the best Defy product for that? Second question - do you have any products that will do the same for IPE?

For the cedar I would suggest the Defy Extreme in Cedartone or Natural Pine:

You can use the Defy Extreme for IPE but I would suggest the Light Walnut.

Please let us know if you have any other questions!
