Redwood Table Help 1 Year, 11 Months ago Karma: 0
I purchased a gallon of the Defy UV resistant clear wood finish to apply on a table I made out of redwood. I purchased this product because I would like to maintain the natural color of the redwood. Now that I have the product, I have read that I am supposed to let the table sit unprotected for 6 months or so to allow the pores to open. I am not really interested in letting the table be unprotected for 6 months and turn grey, only to have to "brighten" it again and apply this sealer.

What would happen if I apply this finish now? Should I just give up on the idea of a clear sealer and use a clear polyurethane varnish??

Clear polyurethane is the worst thing you can put on outside wood. It will yellow, peel, and you will need to sand it off.

The Defy clear UV resists UV fading. To have better UV resistance you will need to use a stain that contains a light tint.

I would go ahead and apply the Defy Clear UV now. Just a light coat. I would suggest getting the Defy Extreme Natural Pine for a second coating in 3-6 months. The natural Pine is transparent and lightly tinted. Similar to as if your wood was wet with water. You will have much better results this way.
