Humid 3 Years, 12 Months ago Karma: 0
Where I live its very humid (Florida) and wood really suffers due to the moist air and sea air, are there extra precautions I should be taking to keep my decking in a good state of repair?

No extra steps are needed. Due to your humidity you probably will get mold and mildew though. Make sure that you clean your deck and stain you deck on a regular schedule. Most likely this will need to be done every couple of years. A tranparent tinted wood stain will also help with the UV and prolong the wood from turning gray.

A high quality deck stain can last 18-36 months on a horizontal surface and twice as long on a vertical. This will vary depending on wood type, weather, and traffic patterns. Do you know if your wood is pine, cedar, or an exotic wood like ipe?

Suggestion for a "MAINTENANCE PLAN": Year 1: Strip, brighten, and seal. Year 2: Brighten, rinse, seal top cap, floor, and facia. Year 3: Start over at year 1.
