Knots and sap 4 Years ago Karma: 0
In some of my decking their are a few knots and these are slighly raised and are off color (sap maybe?) If I were to sand them down, is there a way to stop them rising proud again?

Typically this is done by shifting of the wood from water or changes in weather. You could use the cretowood wood sealer to help minimize this. Cretowood is a permanent sealer that petrifies the wood. This product does not help with color retention but helps drastically with shifting and rotting of the wood.

Would you recommend replacing the pieces of the deck that are starting to do this or would applying the cretowood wood sealer be good enough. I know serious rotting would have to be replaced but would the sealer stop minor problems from getting worse or should boards be replaced with new and then sealer applied?

Cretowood can not fix wood that is already rotting or falling apart. It will help it from getting worse though. If it is dangerous or unsightly, I would suggest replacing the wood first before applying a wood sealer.

Thanks! Yeah, any rotting or dangerous pieces I will remove, but if I can just use the sealer on some very minor problems knowing it'll stop it from getting worse than I'll give it a try. Thanks again.

Hi,

you caught my attention with the word 'petrify' does it really petrify or is just word play?

PS its sounds pretty good and should help me out

No it actually petrifies the wood. This product is great for prolonging the structural integrity of the wood or deck. Keep in mind that this is for the "interior" of the wood. It will not help with UV or general dirt.
