Residue still on deck after cleaning 2 Years, 9 Months ago Karma: 0
I have a deck that was stripped with a Behr product and pressure washed but did not seem to work properly. After the stripping, deck was cleaned with Defy Wood Cleaner purchased from you. This too, did not seem to do the job. Please see the attached picture (black/dark spots) and advise on how to restore to original condition.

Is this tannin stain? Would a wood brightener remove these spots?

Thanks for your help, I look forward to a response!

I believe that the dark stuff is still old stain residue. You would need a wood stripper to remove the rest. Also make sure to brighten the wood. It is very important to neutralize the stripper with the brightener.

The spot I sent a picture had a Behr Deck Stripper Applied which removed the stain and got it to the condition you see now. A Cabet Deck Stripper was then applied (with no visual change) and then the Defy Wood Cleaner (Oxy Bleach)....again, no visual change. Because 2 strippers were applied and the black marks still remain, I am having trouble thinking it is stain residue.

What stripper do you recommend?
Do you have a brightener, which do you recommend?
Any other thoughts before I purchase & try to use another stripper?

Thanks

I can understand your not thinking that it is stain but it does look like that to me. It is definitely not tannins. Sometimes old stains just do not want to come off easily. Try a 2# jar of this:

It is worth a shot. If this does not get it off then you will need to sand.

This company also makes a brightener:
