Advice Please 3 Years, 9 Months ago Karma: 0
I have a cedar deck and am in the processing of sanding it for the
second time in 3 years. I mistakenly used Behr stain twice. The
second time because Behr replaced all stain because of peeling. I was
not smart enough to realize it was the product and not the
applicator. Now I would like to buy a sealer that will last. I would
like a cedar tone to the sealer but not sure what the difference is
between stain and sealer. Could you please advise what product you
would use. I live in Indianapolis and my deck size is 680 SqFt. I
also have to do all the railings.

Thanks

Of all the products we sell there is not one particular brand that is better then the others. All will do much better then the Behr stain though. Take inconsideration that the better the stain penetrates the better it will perform. In general all oil based stains will penetrate better then a water based. Behr is a film forming water base and that is why it peels. Some of most popular are:

TWP Wood Stains
Extreme Solution Products
Defy Stains
Wood Deck Stains

Stain and sealers are essentially the same as long as they are transparent but tinted.

I want to use as sealer that is as transparent as possible! Which product has the least amount of tint! I have Cedar Deck and do not want to add much color. I take it from your earlier email I should be using an oil based sealer.

Thanks

All of our deck stains are transparent. The Honey and Cedar colors are the lightest in tint. The lightest colors such as the Honeys will also fade quicker then the darker tints since they have less UV protection.
