Pine decking stains 4 Years ago Karma: 0
Hi,

Some of my new posts and decks are pine (I think) - it has some water staining, what would be the best way to remove the stains and bring back the wood?

Most likely it is Pressure Treated Pine. If the wood has been previously coated with a deck stain then you would need to use a deck stripper followed by a deck brightener. If it does not have a previous coating then you would need a deck cleaner and deck brightener. Both systems would work to remove the water stains. The brightener is especially important since it can help restore the natural pH balance of your wood.

Do you reckon it will bring it back so all of the wood looks roughly the same color, as that's what I'm trying to achieve at the end of the day

Depeneds on the age and how bad of shape the wood is in. Most likely you will be able to make your wood look substanially better.

What would be the best way to treat a pine deck to retain a natural look throughout the years? I am looking at various typed of woods for a deck, and want to have something that won't look weathered in a couple of season.

I would think at best you should consider this to be a stop gap solution whilst you plan long term to replace the affected area, finances permitting

Deck maintenance on average needs to be done every two years or so. I would suggest using a deck stain that preserves the natural appearance while protecting the wood. Make sure you properly prep the wood fpr maximum results.
