TOPIC: Clear seal for Ipe
#1850
Clear seal for Ipe 1 Year, 1 Month ago Karma: 0
we have a 2 yr old Ipe wood dock at our house in Atlanta on a little lake.
We had it sealed or protected with the Ipe clerar seal finish at first and then last summer.
we would like advice on the proper one to order online and would like the clear finish.
Also the recommended frequency also amount needed for a 15 by 15 foot dock with railings and a short gangway from the water's edge.
thank you
Levy

When staining IPE it is suggested to use a transparent "natural" lightly tinted stain. A true "clear" with no pigment is limited in filtering out the UV from turning the IPE gray.

Our most popular products for IPE are:

Defy Stain for Hardwoods
Messmers UV Plus for Hardwoods

As for the dock, any of the stains we sell will work just fine. If you are concerned with the wood stain dripping into the water then you might want to use a "green" friendly stain such as the Defy brand. You can use the same Defy Stain for Hardwoods on your dock as well
