I have a new log home. What is the procedure starting with log wash through stain that I would need to do for completion. How is the brightener applied, is it necessary. do I need to wash it off. I can't find a step by step on your website. Please supply me with one. Thank you very much

1. Wash all wood with a wood cleaner to remove mill glaze and dirt.
How to on link: www.opwdecks.com/wood-and-deck-cleaning.htm

2. Brighten all wood with a wood brightener. this is needed to neutralize the cleaner and set the proper pH balance for the logs:

Stains are best applied per manufacturer's instructions as they all differ.

Thanks

Use Sikkens, you can do all your research starting here.

Sikkens is the best product recommended by most professionals (that don't get rebates on lessor products).

I work as a PM for a custom painter in Minnesota. Sikkens is really engineered for log cabins.

Thanks

Actually that is not true. The majority of professionals around the country will not use Sikkens. It works well on vertical walls but is extremely difficult to remove if needed, especially their Cetol formula. It films on top of the wood similar to varnish. Problem is that eventually it will peel or blister. You are much better off with a stain that penetrates into the wood. This makes future maintenance much easier.
