Hardwood Stain for Iron wood 3 Years, 8 Months ago Karma: 0
I have a iron wood deck that is 8 years old. After 4 years it lost its natural color and turned a grayish white. My local hardware store recommended Flood CWF-UV clear stain. I have stained my deck every year since and it last about 6 months and then it becomes spotted and by the next spring it is grayish with a few spots that are faded but still show some color. My question to you is Messmers M-UV-Plus hardwood a better product. If so what do I need to prepare the deck for staining. I have approximately 800 sq. feet plus railing. My estimate would be to purchase 5 gallons. My home is in south central Pennsylvania. Waiting for your advice.

Thanks
Grimm

First of all you must use a wood deck stripper to remove as much as possible before applying a new coat of any stain. The reason that your finish isn't lasting very long is that your wood is hard as a rock. Typically your type of wood will need to be recoated every year or so. I know the Messmers Hardwood Stain will last as long and probably a little longer but it will not last more then one season.
