Mold removal on IPE 3 Years, 3 Months ago Karma: 0
Is there anything I need to know before I use the stripper and brightner that will be useful before I start? I have an IPE deck that is two years old. I have pressure cleaned and oiled with Messmers UV every 6 months but the last time I had trouble getting some of the mildew off the wood. Some areas are worse than others, most likely becuase the direction of sun exposure. I also live 2 miles away from the ocean so I beleive a mixture of salt/sun really beat on the deck.

Thanks for everyhting!

Nothing special. Just follow the directions. The deck stripper will soften the old coating so you should be abe to remove the mold/mildew easily. The brightener will neutralize the stripper. If you still have some mildew when done stripping, try applying bleach at 1 part to 4 parts water. You will need to do this to the entire deck. This will kill the mild spores. Do this after stripping and prior to brightening. Make sure to rinse the bleach thoroughly.

Typically you can re-coat without stripping about 3-4 times. Eventually the stain will buildup causing you to strip the finish.
