New Covered Mahogany Porch 2 Years, 5 Months ago Karma: 0
Just about to put down a new Mahogany porch. It's completely covered, although it gets about an hour of direct sun in the early a.m. and late p.m. (Northern N.J.) Based on prior posts, I'm looking at the Defy product (light Walnut?) or TWP (Rustic 116?) Do I need to seal all 6 sides prior to installation? Also, can I reapply either product in a year or two as needed without stripping? Recommendations on color or preference on brand (Defy or TWP) are appreciated. Great board!

Mahogany is very dense so definitely choose a stain that is made for that type of wood:

TWP Rustic would work
Defy Stain for Hardwoods in the Light Walnut
Messmers UV Plus for Hardwoods in Red Mahogany

All can be cleaned and re coated annually or whenever needed. All will perform about the same as well.

Here is a picture of Messmers Red Mahogany

Thanks!

Thanks for these suggestions (and the pic). Do you know if the company will send samples (TWP and Defy)?

Unfortunately most companies do not give out samples. Defy is pretty good about it. Try contacting www.saversytems.com for samples.
