How to remove Sikkens Cetol SRD Teak color 1 Year, 6 Months ago Karma: 0
We "lightly" pressured washed our cedar deck with a PWasher and deck cleaner. We then used Deck Scapes from Sherwin Williams. We have done multiple times but much of the Sikkens will not come out. I've begun hand sanding the spindles with a R/O sander but its taking forever. Is there a product we can apply that WILL remove the Sikkens without having to hand sand the entire deck?
I don't mind spending the money, its the time to hand sand the entire deck I don't have.

Second question. If we are successful in getting back the natural Cedar color. What is the best new stain/sealer to go on. We live in the Pac NW and we get algae/mold yearly. This has been a 2 week endeavour and we don't want to have to do it yearly!

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks!

Sikkens is one of the most difficult stains to remove especially the version that us "shiny" or film-forming. Best is to use a stain stripper to remove as much as possible so your sanding is easier. Nothing though will remove the Sikkens easily. I would look at the HD80 stripper.

As for a stain it would be advisable to go with a penetrating water based stain as they do not "feed" mold/algae growth like oil based stains can. Mold/algae can grow on top of any surface but water based stains will minimize growth in the stain. Best stain for this is the Defy Extreme Wood Stain in a colored tint.
