Penofin Rosewood Oil finishes are available in a variety of different labels. Use Penofin oil wood finishes on any exterior wood surface where a transparent finish with ultraviolet protection is needed. Penofin Deck Stain products have been a leader in wood and deck preservation for many years.

I want a high quality sealer for redwood, with no added color and no shine. Penofin was recommended by Ashby Lumber in Berkeley, CA. Alas there are many permutations of this product. Can you point me to the one that has no added color or shine? Do I need to take any precautions when I apply this stuff?. I am a total amateur with a paint brush. Alas, I also breathe! Many thanks, in advance, for information and cautions.

All of the Penofin Wood Stain products are tinted with some color. This is normal as have a true clear sealer is essentially useless for UV protection. Their Natural color is the lightest tint and will enhance the natural tones of your redwood similar to a wet look. Penofin will not leave a shine with any of their lines once dried.

Make sure the wear clothes that you do not care about when applying. Wear gloves and do not get on the house, concrete or vegetation.

We had a new redwood deck installed at our house in Angel Fire, New Mexico in the fall and want to stain the deck this spring. The Penofin color that seems to go best with the house is Mendocina Mist.

Which Penofin product would be best for this application? Also, can you email "step by step" instructions as well? Does a separate "sealer" need to be applied after the stain is applied? Etc...

Thanks!

The Mendocino Mist only comes in the Penofin Blue label

To prep the wood you could use the Penofin Pro Tech Cleaner

Followed by the Penofin Pro-Tech Brightener

This will "open" the wood pores while removing the mill glaze that is found on new wood.

The Penofin products are both stains and sealers so there is no need for another product to be used.

Thanks

Re:Penofin Wood Deck Stains 10 Months, 3 Weeks ago Karma: 0
Am I able to use Penofin to seal the new pressure treated pine on my boat dock? I don't want to compromise the clean lake water or fish. I am assuming that the cleanup is with solvents which makes me wonder about using it on a boat dock. Is this good for immediate use on new planks or must I wait for three months or more? Thanks.

You can use the Penofin Green Label for Pine but you should be careful to not get into the water as it is an oil based product.

All new wood should dry for 1-2 months then needs to be cleaned and brightened. This will remove the mill glaze and prep the wood accordingly
