TWP Wood and Deck Stain 4 Years ago Karma: 11
TWP Wood and Deck Stain is available in 3 different series. TWP protects and preserves all exterior wood and decks, in a unique combination of chemicals. This professional strength formula protects and preserves exterior wood in several ways. TWP Deck Stain prevents water absorption that causes warping, cracking, and splitting. TWP Deck Sealer Stops U.V. Damage - Special U.V. absorbers prevent unsightly wood graying, darkening, and fading. Wood stays beautiful longer.

I really like this product as a contractor, I use the 100 series for decks, and the 500 series for cedar siding, I have not had the opportunity to try the 200 series thus far.

TWP stains have been one of the top selling products for many years. It was also rated #1 by a consumer magazine a few years ago. This product goes on nicley, retains color for a couple of years, will not darken, and is easliy recoatable or removable when it is time to restore again.

My customers and I really like the newer color pecan, it's a little less orangy than the cedartone, allthough I still enjoy the look of the cedartone too which is still what I apply to 90 percent of my seal jobs. Gemini needs to include this color in their fan deck soon so we can show the customer a sample on cedar.

What is the difference between TWP 100 and 500? (other than the price) Is 100 transparent and 500 semi-transparent????

We are going to make this decision soon.

Are they both oil based????

They both are similar products but the TWP 500 series is compliant for all states while the 100 series is not.

They are both oil based.

Thanks

Re:TWP Wood and Deck Stain 1 Year, 7 Months ago Karma: 0
About a year ago I used TWP 502 on a redwood deck in coastal San Diego. No complaints in general, but I am wondering whether there is something that can be done about the bleeding of the stain from the stained wood onto anything that comes into contact with it (long after the stain has dried). It's been about a year and a half since we stained the deck (fresh redwood deck) and it seems that since then I could walk onto the deck with a white rag, rub the deck, and find some stain that has rubbed off onto the rag. The same happens if kids sit on the deck (except it rubs off onto their clothing--yuck).

Is there anything that can be done about this, e.g. after the stain has dried placing some sort of clear sealant over the stained wood? I know that one problem is that clear coats, depending on the type, have to be sanded off, making it more difficult to maintain the deck (in comparison to cleaning and re-staining with TWP every year).

Just looking for suggestions.

This is not normal for TWP Stain as it is supposed to penetrate into the wood and not be at the surface of the wood. New wood is not very absorbent so this might have been the issue as to why it did not penetrate like it should have.

Best at this point to strip off all the stain and start over. This will make the wood much more absorbent, allowing the TWP to penetrate properly into the wood. Once it does this you should not have anymore issues.

Putting a clear coat sealer on top would not work and would be a bad idea.
