TWP 101 VS Armstrong Clark Cedar Semi - Trans 1 Year, 11 Months ago Karma: 0
I did a complete strip and brighten of my deck horizontals today. Last spring all verticals and horizontals were stripped / brightened and stained with TWP 101. The deck looked fabulous all summer. I decided to do a maintenance coat in early Nov. We ended up getting some frost that night and and I ended up getting some blotchy areas, so I decided to perform a full strip of the horizontals today and start with a clean slate. Hope to stain in April. My dilemma is what stain to use given the fact that TWP 100 series will be going away in the next year or so. Do you know if the new TWP will be compatible with the 100 series so that a full strip would not be necessary for future maintenance coats. If not, I am considering going with Armstrong Clark semi-transparent cedar. If AC is used only on the horizonals, would this blend in with the existing TWP 101 on the verticals. I do not want to strip the verticals + 136 balusters this year. If the contrast would be too great is it possible to put a light coat of AC over the existing TWP on the verticals. I know AC is a combination of Parifin and Linseed oil. Is the oil chemistry of TWP 100 similar enough that they would be compatible? Your advice is much appreciated.

The new TWP 1500 series that will be coming out this summer will be compatible with the 100 series and will have the exact same colors. In my opinion I would stay with the 100 series for now so it all matches.

The Armstrong Clark Semi-Transparent Cedar will not match the TWP Cedartone 101. It is close but slightly different.
