5000 feet driveway questions 8 Months, 3 Weeks ago Karma: 0
I just had pavers installed on a new home... about 5000 sq of pavers total.

I had a few questions:

1. When using the solvent based SuperSeal 25 and a pump sprayer... what is
used for clean up? Mineral Spirits?

2. How much "over spray" is produced with the pump spayers you
sell/recommend? For my driveway I am not concerned about this issue but on
my pool deck the pavers butt to the house, commercial railings, fiberglass
columns, the pool coping, numerous painted fiberglass doors, etc.

3. Is this product Xylene based?

1. Xylene or Lacquer thinner for clean up
2. You should probably edge out any of those areas with a roller before spraying. About 1 foot would be sufficient.
3. This sealer is an Aromatic Solvent. Similar to xylene.

Thanks for your reply.

I was told by my pool and paver people tha Xylene sealers seep into the paver (like etching) and bond with the paver. Where as paint just stays on the top... I am assuming your product does the same thing?

Honestly your pool guys haven't any idea what they are talking about. There are two main ingredients in a paver sealer, solvent and acrylic. The solvent really is not important because it is just a carrier for the acrylic and it evaporates away. The acrylic is the most important part. This is what gives the pavers a shine and durability. The SuperSeal25 paver sealer is a styrene acrylic that has little tiny pin holes when dried. This does not create a 100% film forming membrane which would be like paint lying on top.

To etch a paver you would need an acid such as muriatic. You would never find that in a sealer.

Okay, I will be ordering from you in a week or so once I my occupancy permit is issued.

Thanks again for your help!

Davidd, if you use a polymeric paver sand such as unilock, you can brush and roll everything if you are worried about overspray and items of interest. Sweep it in, feather it out with a leaf blower (lightly and gently), wet it down with a garden nozzle set to mist, let it dry, and apply the sealer brush and roll. Just another option. This sand contains a hardener that activates when wet, just make sure it is only where you want it before wetting.

Will the polymeric sand "crack" like cement? That could cause issues down the road.

No it will not. It hardens when dry but softens when wet.
