preping deck stained with twp 4 years ago 6 Months, 3 Weeks ago Karma: 0
I just bought some TWP-500 to stain my deck again. It was last stained 4 years ago with TWP (I dont think there was a 100 or 500, it was just TWP)

My question is what do I need to do to put TWP on TWP? Since it's 4 years old, will the new TWP soak in? More likely I'm guessing I should use a stripper... if so, are there any "box store" strippers one could recommend? Or something I could get at a halfway decent hardware store? I'd rather not have to wait/pay for shipping from an online source.

Thanks

Typically the "big box" store deck strippers are watered down. They do this to limit the liability. You would be much better off with one of these deck strippers.

If you must buy one locally then I would go to Lowes and use Cabot's problem solver. It would be better then the Behr at HD.

Make sure that you brighten when finished stripping. It is very important to neutralize!

We dont even have a lowes around here... But I went to a local hardware store to buy some Cabots problem solver and found they have two kinds, #8004 for oil based finishes, and #8005 for water based. What should be used to remove TWP?

The 8004 since TWP is an oil based product.
