Hi,
Our deck looks awful! Our home is about 3 years old, the front deck gets southern sun exposure all day long. We live in Western NC. We have treated it, but instead of staying the color we stained with the deck & railings are turning black. The covered porches, look good & the portion of our deck that only gets moring sun, looks acceptable too. What can we do to get rid of the black & retreat with something to keep this from happening again.

What is the brand name of the stain that you used that turned black?
Most likely you will need to strip off the old coating, brighten, and stain with a product that is not prone to darkening in color.

We used Olympic Maximun, 3 yr protection toner....

It should strip off okay with a deck stripper. You may need to go over more then once since it has multiple coats. make sure and brighten when done as this neutralizes the stripper and lightens the wood.
I would choose a product that will not darken in color. Here is a few that are very good at lightening up through the years instead of darkening.

What do you recommend to use as a stripper & these neutrializers. Is this info of how to do it on your website, or did you email the links in the last email?
